Marine BWMS retrofit. Desalination pre-treatment. Chloride-cycle survival.

IMO 2020 obliges ~90,000 vessels to install ballast-water management systems. Commodity mesh corrodes; polymer fouls. GTX precision nickel mesh qualifies against ASTM B117 at 2,000 hours with 99.9% microbial-removal efficiency — a service-life that approximates the host-vessel useful life.

THE MARKET

USD 5.1 B TAM 2030. Retrofit timelines and seawater physics are non-negotiable.

The IMO 2020 Ballast Water Management Convention entered into force for the full global fleet. Retrofit pressure peaks across 2026–2028 as drydock windows align with compliance deadlines. Desalination capacity across the Gulf, Mediterranean, Israel and California is expanding in parallel — all requiring robust pre-treatment filtration that resists chloride-driven corrosion.

TECHNICAL FIT

Chloride kills commodity materials. Nickel outlasts them.

The chloride-ion corrosion mechanism that terminates commodity stainless and phosphor-bronze mesh at the 500-hour mark is materially different from the passivation regime that sustains nickel. NP1 nickel resists chloride-driven pitting far beyond the service-life of commodity alternatives — 2,000 hours under ASTM B117 is documented; field service-life projects further.

Combined with 99.9% microbial-removal efficiency under the IMO 2020 protocol, the mesh is a direct-drop replacement for commodity BWMS filtration elements in most Type-Approved system architectures.
